Introducing sweet Muaysai!!!

Well I have been radio silent on this blog for a bit... but so much has happened!  Three months ago we received a profile of a very sweet and adorable little girl named Muaysai.  I had heard about this little girl during my first conversation with a social worker from Holt when we were determining what possible special needs we might be open to.  In an effort to explain that I was open to limb differences I had said, "If she is missing a hand or foot ... it's not a big deal to me." Mae from Holt immediately replied that there was a little girl in Thailand that fit that exact description but they had not yet completed their assessments and so her profile wasn't available.  Of course I immediately thought, that's it... she's the one! (Mind you this was back in January.)  However if you remember, my husband Travis was still coming around the idea that we were not done adding children to our family and thinking about special needs at that time was just too much.  We decided to "table it" in the meantime.  Well three short months ago Holt informed us that this little girl from Thailand's profile had been processed and we could view it if we were interested.  Of course I wanted to right away!  But I waited... and then talked to Trav that night.  Over the course of that next month it became evident that she was our number four and if it works out we wanted to make her ours!  I still can't really believe it.  Unfortunately I am unable to post a full picture on social media or this blog until everything is official, but I can tell you that she is just the cutest lil' sweetheart!   She turned 2 this past February and as of now we are planning to name her Lillabeth Muaysai (pronounced 'Moi sigh') but I also love Vivian and Esme.  Our hearts are bursting with excitement and love for her already and we just want to bring her HOME!

Many of you know that I am an occupational therapist at Shriners Hospitals for Children here in Portland which has an onsite prosthetics department which Muaysai will need when she comes home.  She has a below the knee amputation on her left leg which means she is missing her ankle and foot.  This was due to amniotic band syndrome which is caused by strands of the amniotic sac which constrict and cut off blood flow to that particular area while the child is in utero... so it is just how she grew in her birth mama's tummy.  She also has a couple missing fingers on her right hand due to the same type of constriction.  This is something that I have seen fairly often at Shriners, but most have likely not even heard of it.  She crawls around now, but she will eventually need a prosthetic leg to help her walk.

I have recently been reminded that life is so fragile and none of us know how long we have on this earth.  Travis is traveling to Montana this next week for an unexpected death of a friend.  There seem to be so many more questions in life than there are answers, but I do know that this little girl found a way to survive despite all odds.  She was born premature at 27 weeks gestation weighing just under 2 pounds.  She was on a ventilator for the first two days of her life and had an oxygen canula for the next six months. She is a fighter... our little Thai fighter.

We have definitely stepped out in faith with this WHOLE process.  Countless prayers and late night chats with my husband have brought us this far, but we still have a ways to go.  In order to continue with this process further we need to make some larger payments.  If adoption has ever been something on your heart to support we would feel so blessed to receive any donations.  This decision never made financial sense to us, but I think that is sometimes how God works.  It's a prompting of the heart to take that leap of faith towards the unknown.
